The so called revolution seems to be more like an evolution

Kroos' new contract and the confirmation of Varane staying at Real Madrid seem to indicate that what looked like was going to be a major clear-out of the squad could end up being much less. Zidane, who the dressing room say is behaving differently in comparison to his first spell, has made his first moves.

Real Madrid fans were hoping that the end of the season would bring about a string of changes involving both players leaving and new men coming in. But none of that seems to be happening. The only decisions which have been made so far at the club seem to indicate that the revolution which was talked about, will end up being the same team with a few changes. There are two examples of this

One, Toni Kroos. Surprisingly, Real Madrid announced the renewal of the German midfielder, who has the full confidence of Zidane. The club extended his contract by another year until 2023 even though that could affect one of Zinedine Zidane's wishes: to sign his compatriot Pogba. With the German in the squad, the United man may not come.

Another example is that of Varane, whose brother said that he was weighing up the possibility of leaving, has stated his love for Real Madrid in an interview with 'Marca'. The central defender is not going anywhere, who will fight for a place in the centre of defence with Militao to partner Ramos. On the left hand side, Marcelo will continue. A Marcelo who had more than one foot out of the club before the return of the French coach.

Regarding Zidane, 'Marca' mentioned that the dressing room say that he is very different to the Zidane who managed them in his first spell at the club. He is more distant, colder, as if he wanted to lay aside the Zidane who treated the players as if he were their friend and which gave him so much success in the past.

He just wants to be the coach, nothing else. He cannot wait for the reinforcements which the club get for him, but will end up being less than initially thought if as it seems, the surplus to demand do not end up leaving. There are players who are certain to leave such as Reguilon, Ceballos and Keylor Navas but only in very specific cases are we talking about senior players in the squad.

Modric, Marcelo, Kroos, Varane, Benzema, Isco, Casemiro... Practically the same Real Madrid eleven, with the odd exception, will stay at the club. As a result, the revolution is much more difficult. The market has still not opened, but Real Madrid do not seem ready for mass changes.
