Few expected such a comprehensive victory for Leicester at Southampton. The Foxes completely outplayed their opponents and they paid tribute to their late owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprahba during the win. It was the biggest away win in Premier League history.
You have to go back to 4th January 1995, in just the third season of the Premier League, to find a result which matched Leicester's. It was at Old Trafford in a match which saw Man Utd thrash Ipswich 9-0.
The goalkeeper of that team managed by Sir Alex Ferguson was Peter Schmeichel. The Danish keeper helped to keep a clean sheet after Keane, Andy Cole (5), Hughes (2) and Ince scored for the Red Devils.
These nine goals made history in the Premier League. A similar situation had never occurred untul 25th October when Leicester did it to Southampton.
In the Leicester goal at St Mary's was Peter Schmeichel's son, Kasper. He was just eight when he saw his Dad make history at Old Trafford and this Friday, he wrote his name into the history books as the only two keepers to see their teams score nine goals and keep a clean sheet in a Premier League match.
No one was more proud than Peter. "What a fantastic performance by Kasper and his Leicester team for winning 9-0 at Southampton. If anyone had to equal our Man Utd record from 94/95 I’m proud and glad that it was you."
