Barcelona's crisis gets deeper. Atletico Madrid handed Koeman's men a humiliating 2-0 defeat on Saturday.
Before of the match, media outlets suggested that the game at Wanda Metropolitano would be Koeman's last day at the job. The truth is now very different.
Joan Laporta, Barça's president, supported Koeman and confirmed that he will remain as Barcelona's head coach. "Despite the result against Atleti, Koeman will stay", stated Laporta ahead of the match.
Barcelona's chairman was seriously considering sacking Ronald Koeman following a catastrophic 3-0 defeat to Benfica in the Champions League. According to 'AS' the only reason why he remains in charge of Barcelona is that Laporta, and the board members, have failed to find another manager that wants to take on the challenge.
According to the same outlet, Laporta and Koeman buried the hatchet. Barcelona has three important games ahead: Valencia, Real Madrid and Dynamo Kiev. After failing to find a coach willing to accept the Barcelona challenge at this point of the season, Barça's president decided to keep the Dutch coach.
This means that Ronald Koeman has three games ahead of him to prove himself to Laporta and Barcelona supporters. According to 'AS', if he gets good results he will secure his job however, if the team fails to perform once again, Barça will start to look for a new coach.
The problem that Laporta is facing is that he doesn't want temporary managers, he wants to find the right fit to stay at Barça for many years to come and at this point of the season that looks like an impossible task.
Barcelona's sporting director, Rafa Yuste, claimed that Barcelona's board never considered firing Koeman. 'AS' contradicts his statement and reports that the reason why the Dutchman kept his job is that Barcelona hasn't found the right coach or at least one interested in assuming the risk that coaching Barça means right now.
