GROUP A
Atletico Madrid are favourites to do what they failed to last year and take their Champions League campaign into the new year. The study gave them an 81% chance of progression, way ahead of Borussia Dortmund's 59% and Club Brugge's 33%. Monaco's poor recent form has also been taken into account, with the Mongesque side given just a 27% chance of escaping the group.
GROUP B
Unsurprisingly Barcelona are heavily backed to progress from Group B, with the study giving them a whopping 86% chance of doing so. Despite their impressive Champions League group stage last season Tottenham are only given a 53% chance of continuing to the knockout stages, with Inter Milan (34%) and PSV (27%) considered unlikely to progress.
GROUP C
The 'group of death' promises to be one of the most interesting to watch from a neutral point of view this season, with three sides having a genuine chance of progressing. Last season's runners-up Liverpool (78%) lead the study, followed by PSG (69%) and Napoli (45%). Red Star Belgade, returning to the competition after a long absence, are considered huge outsiders (8%).
GROUP D
The figures reflect the fact that it is arguably the most equal group in terms of quality, with Porto (69%) and Schalke (53%) expected to see off competition from Galatasaray (27%) and Lokomotiv Moscow (22%) to progress to the knockout stage.
GROUP E
Bayern are almost nailed on to make it through with a 91% chance of progressing. Behind them it appears that Ajax (46%) and Benfica (42%) with scrap it out for second spot, with AEK Athens far behind with just a 22% chance.
GROUP F
It's a similar story in Group F where Premier League champions Manchester City are hot favourites to progress with a 92% chance. The battle for second could be an interesting one, though, with Lyon (40%), Shakhtar Donetsk (39%) and Hoffenheim (28%) all in with a chance.
GROUP G
The current champions are expected to continue their love affair with the competition, with Real Madrid given a 93% chance of escaping the group. Last season's semi-finalists Roma are next up with 55%, followed by CSKA Moscow (40%) and Viktoria Plzen (12%).
GROUP H
Last, but not least it's Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus. The Italians are expected to make it to the last 16 (77%) ahead of Manchester United (51%), Valencia (42%) and Swiss minnows Young Boys (31%).
