Real Madrid have to rearm themselves in order to leave behind a month in which few things went like expected. The elimination from the Copa del Rey and the loss of top spot in the league have been joined with the last 16 Champions League defeat.
Los Blancos had a 15-minute collapse in which they conceded two goals that meant Manchester City came back to win 2-1.
It isn't a flattering score to visit the Etihad with and even less with the absence of Ramos, but there are a few precedents that they can look for comfort in.
The Etihad isn't watertight in Champions League matches and in the 2017-18 knockout stages they lost twice. The 2nd one spelled their elimination in the quarter-finals.
The first one was in the last 16 against Basel. The Swiss outfit came into the match after losing 4-0 in the first leg that left the tie practically over. Pride was at stake more than anything else and Elyounoussi and Lang turned around the scoreline after Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring.
The defeat in the quarters was more dramatic as City came into the game losing 3-0 against Liverpool. Although Gabriel Jesus' goal in the 2nd minute gave the fans lots of hope, Salah and Firmino turned things around in the 2nd half, which put Guardiola's men out the competition.
In both cases, the visitor's won 2-1. A result that, although it wouldn't see Madrid go through, would be enough to force extra time, something in which Los Blacnos usually do well in.
