The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) approved plans for a new model of the Copa del Rey this Monday at a General Meeting with 91 votes in favour, 2 against and one abstention.
The new model expands the number of teams in the tournament from 83 to 116, and means that all rounds will now be one-legged affairs - with the exception of the semi-finals.
In the new Copa del Rey, 42 teams from the First and Second Divisions will take part, with a further 28 from the Second Division B, 32 from the Third Division and the 4 semi-finalists from the Federation Cup, as well as the 10 winning teams from a qualifying tournament between the champions of each territiorial federation that will be played near the start of the season.
The first knockout round will be played on 18th December and the second on 12th January. The round of 32, round of 16 and quarter-finals will be played on the 22nd and 29th of January and the 5th February respectively, with the two-legged semi-finals being contested on the 12th February and 4th March.
The final, now just a single match, will take place on 18th April 2020.

In terms of the Spanish Super Cup, whose new format was also approved, the new model will now feature four clubs: the champions and runners-up of the Copa del Rey and the champions and runners-up of the league.
In the case that the finalists of the Copa del Rey also finish in the top two in the league, they will keep their places and the other places will be handed down to the next best-placed teams in the league.
The new 'Final Four' format will be played between 8th and 12th of January, where the champions of the cup will face the runners-up of the league and the winners of the league will face the cup runners-up.
