On 30 November, just two days after the crash, the Atanasio Girado stadium in Medellin gave a heartfelt tribute to Chapecoense, Atletico Nacional's opponents who were unable to play in the final of the Copa Sudamericana after the crash.
Champions of the Copa Sudamericana
On 5 December 2016, CONMEBOL awarded the title of champion of the Copa Sudamericana to Chapecoense.
Receiving the trophy
On 21 December 2016, the club president Plinio David De Nes Filho, received the trophy of the Copa Sudamericana during the draw for the 2017 edition of the tournament.
First friendly match
Just two months after the tragic crash, on 22 January 2017, Chapecoense returned to the pitch to play a friendly match. It was against Palmeiras and ended in a 2-2 draw.
The survivors recover
On 3 March 2017, Jackson Follmann was honoured and managed to walk with a prosthesis after his right leg had to be amputated.
Debut in the Copa Libertadores
On 7 March 2017, Chapecoense made their Copa Libertadores debut, beating Zulia 2-1 in Maracaibo, Venezuela.
First title after the accident
On 7 May 2017, Chapecoense emerged victorious in the Campeonato Catarinense after defeated Avai in the final.
Defeat in the South America Cup Winners' Cup
On 10 May 2017, Atletico Nacional came back in the second leg after losing the first leg 2-1, as they beat Chapecoense 5-3 on aggregate to win the South America Cup Winners' Cup
Elimination from the Copa Libertadores
On 23 May 2017, after putting the ineligible Otavio in the starting eleven, Chapecoense were eliminated from the Copa Libertadores. The Brazilian side had beaten Lanus but the match was recorded as a 3-0 loss for fielding an ineligible player.
Party against Barcelona
On 7 August 2017, Chapecoense were honoured with a great occasion at the Camp Nou against Messi and co. They lost 5-0 to Barca, but the images went viral around the world.
Another final defeat to Urawa Red Diamonds
On 15 August 2017, the Japanese side won 1-0 with a stoppage-time goal in the final of the Suruga Bank Championship against Chapecoense.
Visit to Pope Francis
On 30 August 2017, Chapecoense visited the Pope at the Vatican.
Elimination from the Copa Sudamericana
On 20 September 2017, Flamengo defeated Chapecoense and knocked them out of the Copa Sudamericano, as they weren't able to replicate the success of the previous year.
Follman returns to training
On 17 November 2017, the goalkeeper who had his leg amputated after the accident, Jackson Follman, came back to briefly train in the net.
Chapecoense avoid relegation
On 17 November 2017, the team secured their safety after a victory over Vitoria. The greens will play in Serie A once again next season.
