The 'Old Lady' have dominated Italian football since, with Roma and Napoli providing the biggest threat last season. The Milan clubs have been more conspicuous by the absence at the business end of competitions.
The teams captained by Zanetti and Maldini are a distant memory today, the Milan derby has lost its sparkle in recent years and the the city has been left behind by teams from Turin, Rome and Naples.

'Pazza' Inter and the 'Red and Black devil' that is Milan have fallen down the pecking order - average sides, with little to shout about and trophies merely a memory in the past.
However, the wait is over. The 'Milanesi' are coming back. This summer has seen them both make important moves, demonstrating their will to return to where they belong.

The 'Rossoneri' have gone back to some legendary figures from their past. Leonardo and Paolo Maldini are back on the board, uniting with Gattuso in the dugout. Higuain, Caldara, Bakayoko, Strinic and Pepe Reina have already arrived. Milinkovic-Savic is the next target.
Inter has taken a different approach, but with Lautaro Martinez and Mauro Icardi up front it is a treat for they eyes. The young Argentine has been the revelation of this pre-season. Nainggolan, de Brij, Vrsaljko, Asamoah and Keita Balde have been added to the ranks. Luka Modric could be next.
The two Milan sides are finally showing that they have returned to their previous heights, ready to take on Italy, Europe and Cristiano Ronaldo.
