As of the 22nd January 2021, the future of Sergio Ramos at Real Madrid is still a question mark. The veteran CB and the club aren't managing to come to an agreement about the extension of his contract and the rumours about his exit don't cease to grow.
Despite very few imagining the captain away from the Bernabéu, the chosen replacements for the Madrid CB have already begun to be spoken about.
The newspaper 'AS' names 5 possible Madrid candidates, starting with a man that has been linked a lot in the last few months: David Alaba, Bayern Munich player.
The defender has been linked with the side since last year, although George Alaba, father and representative of player, denied his signing for Madrid when it seemed to be a done deal.
Next on the list is Virgil van Dijk, key piece of Klopp's Liverpool. In the last few years, the Dutch player has competed with Ramos for the spot as best CB in the world.
He is followed by RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, one of the most sought after players at the moment. A quality reinforcement, but more than complicated due to the big competition for his signing.
Fourth on the list is Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli. An always-present option on the Real Madrid agenda and much more economic than the rest of the candidates.
And finally Leonardo Bonucci, leader of the Juventus defence. A veteran Italian wall with plenty of experience in European and world football. At 33, he would be the best temporal solution to buy time.
