The first goal of Spain's elite tier of the 2021/22 season was signed, in style, by Carlos Soler. He did so from twelve yards in the La Liga opener between Valencia and Getafe.
The injection of intensity that Bordalas had given Valencia was noticeable from the start. The style of play guaranteed fans an electrifying encounter. After three minutes, Guillamon saw straight red for a challenge with his studs up committed right in front of the referee.
Although this could have been game over for Valencia, the stage was for the home side to grow into the match. In one of the following runs, Cheryshev burst into David Soria's area and was met by Djené, who caught him with a late trip. The referee didn't doubt in pointing to the spot.
Carlos Soler stepped up to take and did so masterfully. With a short run up, he gently touched the ball with the inside of his right boot, firing into the right hand side and sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
