After slightly more than two months of the season, Barca are showing signs of inconsistency. Fortunately for them, the other big sides have also not been firing either.
But it is inevitable that there is tension in the stands. With the squad Barca here, they cannot accept losing to Levante after conceding three goals in eight minutes and being held 0-0 by Slavia Prague. A win against the Czech side would have meant taking a huge step towards going into the last 16 as a group winner. Now, Dortmund are just one point behind and Inter four.
The crowd have already warned the players by booing them because they can see their team is not capable of reacting and they are lacking the spark they had in previous seasons. Griezmann is from the level expected of him and is actually doing better in defence than in attack.
Valverde is in the spotlight because he cannot find the formula to turn the situation around which is summed up in two very important stats. The first of them is about Gerard Pique.
The central defender got booked and that meant his ninth in 15 matches for Barca. He got just seven in the whole of last term. In the last few months, he has shown to be weaker in defence.
But the other problem, according to ProFootballDB', for Barcelona is to do with the number of goals conceded. Barca have let in 16 goals in just over a dozen matches, an average of more than one per game. In fact, Ter Stegen's average is 1.1 goals per game.
If we compare that to last season, Ter Stegen had an average of 0.9 and 0.8 in the 2017-18 campaign. There is no doubt the stats show they are in crisis and the Catalans need to turn the situation around as quickly as possible.
Pique himself has called for calm: "I would ask for a bit of patience; the team are trying their hardest to find solutions. We have to keep cool and try and improve our results and play."
