What if the big leagues were over already? Belgium has taken the first step. The Belgian league has recommended that the national championship be terminated. The precedent, which would make Bruges champions, could serve as an example for other countries.
In Spain, Barcelona would be the champion. They currently dominate the table with a two-point lead over Real Madrid. It was not long ago that the 'culés' took the lead. The end of the championship would take the fans away from watching the final battle of the 'merengues' for the lead.
In England, the decision would come as no great surprise. Liverpool, who face the league title with no less than 25 points over Manchester City, would lift the trophy. They are one step away from being the victor in mathematical terms, but, after all, it's not official yet.
Another league that would be as tight as the Spanish one is the Bundesliga. Bayern would emerge as the best in the nation with Borussia Dortmund four points behind them. RB Leipzig, five points behind, are also in danger of losing the season, but if the Belgian team wins, that is how it will end.
Neymar, Mbappé and Co could be celebrating another Ligue 1 title this summer, with PSG 12 points ahead of Marseille, their main challengers for the trophy, and the winner. They may not be as far ahead of the game as Liverpool, but they have a good chance of winning it.
The tightest case is Italy. Juventus lead by just one point from Lazio. Their fans would be frustrated if Serie A were to end. Sarri and his soldiers, on the other hand, would breathe easy with one more title to their name without much effort.
