The voting period on UEFA's website will last until 9 January, when the names of those chosen will be announced from the 50 pre-selected by UEFA.com's editorial team.
Liverpool, winner of the Champions League, is the club with the most representation with ten players. Among them are the UEFA Player of the Year Virgil van Dijk of the Netherlands and Jurgen Klopp's captain Jordan Henderson. Cristiano Ronaldo is nominated for the 16th consecutive year.
According to what 'UEFA' have confirmed, the 50 nominated represent a total of 14 clubs and half of them have played in the English league. 24 of them appear for the first time and belong to 21 different countries, with an average age of 27.18.
Scotsman Andy Robertson, who plays for Liverpool, is the first player in his country to be selected in the 19 years of the history of the team of the year.
The three players who have appeared the most are Cristiano Ronaldo, with 13, as a member of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus, the Argentine, Leo Messi, who plays for Barcelona, with ten and the Real Madrid captain, Sergio Ramos, with eight.
