Barcelona want to strengthen their midfield ahead of next season. Sergio Busquets is looking likely to go and it'll leave a gap which many players will be hoping to fill. Xavi's favourite is Zubimendi, but his price tag of €60 million is making it more and more difficult.
Another one who's on the list and who seems to be free to go is Ilkay Gundogan. The German midfielder ends his contract at Manchester City this summer and would therefore arrive on a free. Despite being optimistic about it, 'Jigantes' claimed that the Catalan side want to put in a clause which would make it harder for him to go there.
The mentioned source reported that said clause is to do with the 'Financial Fair Play' rules which means Barca are having difficulties registering players. Faced with this situation, they want to cover their backs. That's why that if they can't register players, the German would go out on loan to another side earning the same amount.
This formula has also been proposed to Inigo Martinez, who is another one on the 'Cule's list. The current Athletic Bilbao player is thought to have accepted but the German is still thinking about it. Barca in any event, hope that it won't come to that and are confident that they'll be able to reduce their wage bill enough to be able to register new signings in the summer.
