The bursting of Atletico Madrid's scoring bubble under Cholo

Atletico Madrid's lack of goals is affecting the team. They are now sixth in La Liga. 'Los Colchoneros' have not managed to score a goal since the match with Granada. Simeone's system shows deficiencies compared to other years.

Atletico Madrid have a serious problem when it comes to scoring goals. Cholo Simeone's men have never been characterised for scoring lots of goals, but this year, the stats are alarming

The Madrid based outfit have got the worst goalscoring stats since the Argentine took over. They have scored just 16 times in the league despite having the most expensive strikers they have had ever: Diego Costa, Joao Felix, Lemar, Morata... since 2016-17, the figure has been dropping constantly, according to a study by 'ProFootballDB', BeSoccer's database.

Just one goal in three matches is a very poor amount for a club who are looking to win everything. The last goal Atletico scored was in the draw at Granada

The absence of Griezmann, the side's top scorer last term, has weakened them significantly up front. Morata on his own is not enough to score the goals they need and Diego Costa's absence means Morata is lacking a quality strike partner

Putting stats to one side, Atletico are managing to reach the opposition's box as shown versus Barcelona, but they lack the killer touch and help in attack from the rest of the teammates like Savic, Gimenez, Thomas, Saul and Koke.

The problem is not only in attack though. The poor defensive displays are costing them and Messi's goal in the last game was a clear example of that. Other thing which is driving the Atletico fans to despair is that they have conceded in each of their last seven matches. It seems like the fact Atletico are going through a rebuilding phase is not a good enough excuse for the supporters.

"We are in transition," Simeone argued, despite the big investments carried out by the club. The Cholo style Atletico Madrid which had a rock solid defence and took advantage of their opportunities going forward is disappearing.
