On the very same Wednesday that the nominees for 'The Best' in all categories were announced, FIFA decided to postpone the award ceremony following the death of Diego Armando Maradona.

Maradona's death has shaken the foundations of the footballing world, which has been in mourning since Wednesday 25 November, the day on which Maradona left us forever.

The match that Boca were going to play against Internacional in the first leg of the round of sixteen of the Libertadores was suspended because of the loss of '10'. Now, it is the 'Best' awards that suffer the consequences of the fateful news, which caused the postponement of these awards.

Fifa have now announced that due to the death of Maradona the award ceremony will not be celebrated as planned and will instead be postponed.

Gianni Infantino, president, will announce in the next few days the final date, which was originally planned for the month of December, but 'The Best' will have to wait to know its winner.
