Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid earned a share of the spoils. It was a huge game and a lot was expected of it, but it failed to live up to billing. However, there were some positive things to take away from it.
Getting a point in a derby is always good. Even though you can always feel that two points were dropped, getting a draw against a direct rival is important.
The match ended 0-0 and both Oblak and Courtois kept a clean sheet. The Atletico Madrid goalie deserves credit after making a tremendous save to deny Benzema fifteen minutes from time.
This time there was no fighting between the two sides. Barring a touchline spat just before the break, it was a clean game at the Wanda unlike in the 3-7 match in pre-season.
Only one point separates the two sides in the table. Both teams are very even. Real Madrid are leaders with 15 points, Atletico are third with 14. There are still five games left in the weekend's round of fixtures though.
Barca are behind both of these two despite winning in Getafe. That said, they are just behind them in fourth with 13 points.
This match wias rather forgettable, but whatever the situation, there are always positives to take out of it.
Both sets of fans were expecting more from Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, but it was not to be. Hopefully the return at the Bernabeu will be more exciting.
