"There are many goalkeepers who make the difference," Ter Stegen said, when asked who the top five goalkeepers in the world are. However, the German then took the chance to name them,
"De Gea, Neuer, Buffon, Alisson and Ederson." he said.
The question was asked in a press conference for Barcelona's upcoming Champions League quarter-final second leg against Roma. Brazilian keeper Alisson, who makes it into Ter Stegen's top five, will be between the posts for Roma during Tuesday's game, and has been heavily linked with Liverpool.
Ederson, who is also from Brazil, has been a revelation for Manchester City this season, suring up their defence and providing fantastic distribution.
Manchester United's David De Gea, Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer and Juventus' Gigi Buffon need no introduction, and are widely regarded as the best goalkeepers in the world.
However, Ter Stegen added that he wasn't trying to rank the keepers. "I can't evaluate who is the best," he explained. "Because each one has his own way of playing, and they all fit their own teams."
