Tebas warns Club World Cup will widen financial gulf between clubs

La Liga president, Javier Tebas, reiterated on Wednesday that the Club World Cup is "detrimental" and that he will not move Real Madrid's first La Liga match because it would be detrimental to audiovisual rights.

The president of the football league attended a seminar in Vitoria organised by the Euneiz University under the title "New Trends in the Sports Industry".

During his presentation, Tebas expressed his views on various topics, including a Club World Cup that "harms the calendar", and he lamented that its implementation had not been consulted with other competitions.

He also stated that the financial rewards of this competition "are outrageous" and that they will generate “a problem of competitiveness with the money that reaches those clubs" compared to the rest that do not participate.

"They ask for more days to rest, but they earn 140 million euros, twice the budget of Alaves, and then they ask for time to prepare,” the president remarked. "We are losing perspective," added the lawyer, who also disagreed with the new Champions League.

Tebas also admitted that another challenge for La Liga is the fight against piracy. "It is the biggest competitor of audiovisual rights," he confessed.

"If that declines, it puts the competition in danger in the medium term," he added, revealing that "about 60%" of his working life is dedicated to fighting piracy. "It is a complex system, but we already know it," warned Javier Tebas, who revealed that 20 people work on each La Liga match to fight piracy live.

"We can send all the IPs (2,000 per match) to the main internet companies to block them live," he revealed, adding that they have 17 criminal actions against Google for crimes against property, among other things.
