The season is coming to a close and little by little you can see, with stats in hand, who has fulfilled the expectations and has had a good campaign.
There are still some weeks until the end of the season, probably the most decisive, but one can make a list of three names which, whatever happens, will have had an excellent individual performance.
Leo Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema are, almost in this order, three players which have overcome the expectations put on them at the start of the season.
The Argentine, for the umpteenth consecutive year, has had a fantastic season on an individual level. making clear the reasons for which the great majority consider him to be the best footballer on the planet and in history.
The star from Rosario has been the main man for Barcelona and through superb performances, he has put Valverde's team just six wins away from the treble.
The number 10's individual stats are amazing (45 goals and 19 assists in 43 matches) and added to that, his team are having a great season which is a step away from once again being historic.
In case of another treble, Messi would culminate of his best campaigns and would guarantee, without any shadow of a doubt, what would be his sixth Ballon D'or. And maybe even the golden shoe.
The only player who could compete with him for this last award seems to be Kylian Mbappe who has converted himself in the main man for PSG, even ahead of Neymar.
The Brazilian's injury forced Mbappe to lead from the front practically on his own and the French international has fulfilled with ease.
Kylian is on the verge of being the 'Pichichi' of a Ligue 1 which he has conquiered again and he is very close to the double, since shortly he play in the final of the Coupe de France.
The only negative for the number 7 of PSG in a season plagued with star moments (36 goals and 14 assists in 40 matches) is that fateful elimination from the Champions League. An elimination which still hurts Kylian.
Lastly, together with these two titans, another footballer which has had a great campaign has been Real Madrid's number 9: Karim Benzema.
The French footballer is very close to completing his best campaign goalscoring wise, something he has been heavily criticised for in the past, since he arrived at the Bernabeu in 2009.
His 30 goals and nine assists in 50 matches show that Karim has taken a step forward to try and soften the blow of Cristiano Ronaldo's departure who this campaign has poorer stats than the Frenchman.
Despite everything, Benzema has become almost on his own at Real Madrid as he is the only attacker who has perform at a great level and tried to avoid a trophyless season at Concha Espina. Something he has not been able to achieve.
