The war-torn nation kept their hopes of qualifying for what would be their first-ever World Cup finals alive with a stoppage time equaliser against Iran on Tuesday night, with one commentator reduced to tears by the goal.
Omar al-Soma was the man to score the all-important goal in Tehran and it proved just too much for the man on the mic.
This was how his commentary unfolded as Syria came back from the dead: 'Should we say we've thrown away the dream ourselves? Come on boys! Come on boys! The second goal! The second! Pass!
As the ball crosses the line he can be heard thanking Allah and exlaiming: 'Minute 93! What's happening! Cry! Be happy!
'The second goal! The second goal for our national team!.
'Who scored it? Who scored? Somah! It had to be Somah! It had to be Somah! The equalising goal.'
At this point he realises the magnitue of what he has just witnessed, before telling viewers: 'Pardon me! I've lost it! No one can stop them.'
Syria will now face Australia over two legs with the winner set for another play-off against either the USA, Honduras or Panama.
