Sunderland sack Jack Ross

Sunderland have made it official that they have sacked Jack Ross as first team coach, now that the first eleven rounds of the championship have been played in League One.

“This is a decision that has been made with a heavy heart. When we arrived at the club 18 months ago, we appointed Jack because we felt that he was the right man to take Sunderland forward over a number of years," SAFC chairman Stewart Donald said.

The coach will now be temporarily replaced by assistant-manager James Fowler, who has been placed "in temporary charge of first team affairs" and will take charge of the team during the match against Grimsby Town.

“Jack has worked extremely hard, and has helped us achieve stability at the club, and I sincerely thank him for his efforts. I hope and believe that he will go on to have a successful career in management.”

The dismissal came about due to an inconsistent start to the season for a team whose aim is promotion. After 11 games, Sunderland have managed to get 5 wins, 4 draws and 2 losses.
