Luis Suárez has only been at Atletico Madrid a few days and it's already clear to him that he wants to make history. In his farewell to Barcelona, he said that he is still very eager to compete and, in his first extensive interview as an Atlético player, he restated his intentions.
"The first sentence that came out was to say: 'leave me a space here, I want to make history'," he said when asked about his feelings when, at the museum of Wanda Metropolitano, he passed in front of the mural where the team's legends are honoured.
"I have come to contribute something to the team, my little grain of sand, either with goals or assists, and above all to win trophies, which is what I have come for. I am eager and enthusiastic to live this new experience," said the Uruguayan.
Regarding his new coach, Simeone, he said: "He is a pleasure, I hope to learn a lot from him, he always tells you things to improve". The manager is one of the architects of the victory at Anfield in the last Champions League: "He is symbolic of what Atlético is, this is how he was perceived from the outside and now I get to enjoy it from the inside".
At this welcome event, Atlético organised a video call between Suárez and Diego Forlán. The former Barca player said: "You know what you have meant to me, I was calling you from Holland and celebrating your goals at Atlético". Once the conversation was over and while he was still in the museum, he said: "It has gone very well for all the Uruguayans of Atlético, I hope I am not an exception".
