A new edition of the U19 European Championship has arrived and it always invites us to take a look back to the past. A tournament that has produced some of the greatest players of recent years. A factory of talent for future generations. We rewind several years to remember some of the great stars who did manage to take home the gold throughout this 21st century.

In the 2002 edition, the Spanish national team emerged victorious after beating Germany in the final. A great generation with Andres Iniesta, Fernando Torres and Jose Antonio Reyes as great leaders. In that team there was also Dani Jarque, a great friend of Iniesta's -and whom he wanted to remember at the 2010 World Cup-. Two years later, in the 2004 edition, Sergio Ramos and David Silva were the most recognisable faces in a team that won the final 1-0, with Borja Valero's goal, against Turkey.

Hugo Lloris won it with France in 2005 before Spain repeated the feat in 2006, with Gerard Pique, Juan Mata and Diego Capel in the squad. 'La Rojita' failed to win it in 2010 against France, who had Lacazette and Antoine Griezmann in their squad. In 2011, Spain were crowned champions again with Alvaro Morata and Dani Carvajal in the squad.

Germany were crowned champions in 2014 against Portugal in the final. With Julian Brandt and, above all, Joshua Kimmich. A year later, Spain dominated again with the recent Ballon d'Or in the starting eleven: Rodri Hernandez. With Luis de la Fuente on the bench and Mikel Merino also part of the team, 'la Rojita' beat Russia to take gold.

In 2016, France took it in a generation with Kylian Mbappe as the big star - two years later he won the World Cup with the senior team - and with Marcus Thuram also in contention.
