Barcelona's humiliating loss to Roma in the Champions League quarter-final was a painful day for the team, the club, and the fans. To go out in such a fashion, after holding a 4-1 lead from the first leg, is enough to threaten even the most stable of managerial posts.
However, now that the dust has settled from that loss, it seems that Barca's European elimination will not be enough to undo all of Ernesto Valverde's hard work at the club, with his side just three points away from securing the La Liga title.
As reported by Spanish outlet 'SPORT', the Barcelona squad were disappointed in the criticisms and doubts that were raised about their coach after the loss to Roma, and this was clear to see at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday. Valverde's side made sure that they will (short of a huge upset) finish the season with a double, as they waltzed past Sevilla to lift the Copa del Rey.
Furthermore, the outlet claims that Barcelona's president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, has never had doubts about continuing with Valverde next season, stating that the chief has "100% confidence" in the coach.
SPORT ran the story on the front page of their paper, with the headline translating to 'UNTOUCHABLE VALVERDE'.
