Memes are all the rage and Spartak Moscow's English-language Twitter account has become a meme machine. Not long ago, they ironised a possible signing of Cristiano Ronaldo by denying the Portuguese the possibility of joining their team in order to point out what it is costing him to find a new project. Now, his victim is Barcelona.
FC Barcelona are closing in on several high-profile signings despite the fact that their budget and financial situation suggest that this is not possible, so the Russians have shared a ten-second video that is being used as a new meme. A character appears with strange gestures and it is the 'creator' who explains why.
"Us when Barcelona want to buy Victor Moses using imaginary money with payments structured till 2438," reads the text. There is no need to explain that it was an ironic message that, in the end, got what it wanted, as it went viral in a matter of a couple of hours and was widely commented on on the internet.
This was not very funny, however, for Barcelona fans, who are excited about Joan Laporta's new era and Xavi Hernandez's first. Raphinha, Lewandowski, Kessie and Christensen are already a reality and Spartak's jokes, in a sense, are understandable, as the management still have to close more levers or sell Frenkie de Jong to sign them all.
