Gianni Infantino, FIFA's president, has revealed some controversial ways he wants to change football as we know it.
Perhaps the most controversial idea is to expand the World Cup from 32 to 48 teams, in order to give more teams the chance to play in a major tournament.
Speaking ahead of England's ucoming fixtures against the USA and Croatia, Southgate admitted that he does not agree with the idea.
"I personally wouldn't be a fan of that" the coach, who led England to the semi-finals of this year's World Cup, said.
"I think some of the important things around tournaments and qualifying tournaments is the jeopardy around it. One of the things about the Nations League is that we're looking at a game where we could be going to a semi-final or we could be out of the league.
"That sort of jeopardy adds tension to the games and adds excitement for the fans.
"I understand that the opportunity to play major tournaments for some countries that don't get there so often is a big one but I think we've got to be careful not to make tournaments too big and then make qualifying for the tournaments too straightforward because I think the games become less interesting if there isn't any jeopardy involved."
