Wesley Sneijder is a clear example of a talented footballer who got carried away by his personal problems. The Dutchman gave an interview to 'ABC' in which he detailed his experiences as a Real Madrid player and confessed the problems he had to go through in the capital.
The former midfielder indicated that he was "not well with the family" and explained that if you have problems in your personal life "you go looking for things to help you". "I thought that if I had one more drink, I wouldn't have to think too much. But that's the beginning of something harder," the former player said.
Among the reasons that led him to feel bad, he commented that it was very hard for him to break up his wife and to see that his son "was not as close as before". He also pointed out that he was "young" and "not thinking well".
Finally, he referred to his sporting career with the Spanish team: "I played well, especially in my first year. After that it was more difficult because I was doing other things.... I would do it differently if I could do it again".
