Sir Alex Ferguson has quit alcohol as he aims to recover fully

After he returned to Od Trafford for the first time since his surgery last month, a source has told 'The Sun' that the hugely successful manager has given up drinking.

Famed for his love of red wine, a source told 'The Sun' that he didn't touch a drop during a recent holiday to the South of France. 

A staff member at Villefranche-sur-Mer's La Mare Germaine restaurant said: ''He drank water every time he visited us, not a drop of wine touched his lips.''

''Sir Alex loves his wines but he's stopped drinking for the time being — that's not so good for us, but his health has to come first.''

''We'll all raise a glass to him when he feels he's ready to go back on the red.''
