Granada coach Diego Martínez described the Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez, Atletico Madrid's latest signing, as "one of the best players in the world" and acknowledged that they are "very aware" of him in the match plan planned by his team for Sunday's match at Wanda Metropolitano.
"Going to the Atlético Madrid pitch is a tremendous challenge. We want to give it our best without thinking about the result, we are going with all the intention of giving it our best and with no expectations against one of the best teams in Europe and one of the most beautiful pitches in the world," said Martínez this Saturday in the pre-match press conference.
The Granada manager played down the fact that it is the first official match of Atlético's season, arguing that "they have been playing at the top of Europe for ten years", and moreover "most of the players have stayed with the same manager", Diego Simeone, so that Sunday will be "the best match they could hope for".
"When you talk about a team with such a stable sustainable performance and add Luis Suárez on top of that, any fan knows the kind of game we are talking about and the kind of team we are going to face," stressed the manager, who focused on the incorporation of the Uruguayan striker.
He acknowledged that if the former Barcelona player finally plays, they will take him "very much into account in the match plan, like many of the Atlético players who are at the 'top' level'".
