It happened in the match last Saturday between Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End. The home player was caught in the face by the Preston captain, Tom Clark.
The Northern Ireland international had to be stretchered off in the 13th minute of the game, his 200th appearance. It was a very serious injury.
Although Blackburn Rovers thought initially that he has fractured his nose and cheekbone, tests revealed the seriousness of the injury. He has a fractured skull and shattered eye socket.
"Corry’s not a good story. He was in hospital for a few days with his family close by. He’s had scans and x-rays. Ultimately he’s fractured the front part of his skull and has shattered all around his eye socket. We’ve been with Corry, his family and advisors, and are trying to find the best option for him to get the best people we can for the operation," Tony Mowbray, the Blackburn Rovers manager, confirmed.
Evans will be out for a long period of time. Both the player and the club are aware that an injury of such nature requires months of recovery time. The club confirmed that the footballer is in "decent spirits" and with his family.
