However, the hosts flattered to deceive for long spells of the game, having also been second best for the large part of the goalless draw with Crystal Palace at the weekend.
Overall, United have won just four of the ten games they have played on home turf so far this season, something which Shaw says need to change fast.
"Off the back of the result on the weekend, I think it was always going to be tougher than we expected," he told 'beINSports' following the game.
"Some teams used to fear OId Trafford but I think sometimes now people come in and think they can get results.
"Most importantly, that's what we have got to change as a team and as a club — to bring that fear factor back to an Old Trafford that not many fear at the moment."
