Switzerland will not be without its biggest star against Spain. Shaqiri had arrived on site but was sent packing almost immediately after testing positive for COVID-19.
The Liverpool player underwent two PCR tests in the last 48 hours and both came back negative, meaning that there is no risk of contagion and that he is available to play for his country once again.
"The Spanish health authority gave the green light late on Friday night for Xherdan Shaqiri to play in the UEFA Nations League match on Saturday 10 October 2020 between Spain and Switzerland in Madrid. As well as Shaqiri, all players and members of staff on the Swiss team have tested negative", read the official statement.
Petkovic is delighted to have Shaqiri available, and said on playing against Spain: "They're the favourites, we all know it. We are taking on a fierce opponent".
