As news filtered through before kickoff that Barcelona had lost in Leganes, the onus was on Real Madrid to put in a performance. It didn't materialise early on.
Twice they were caught on the break, and twice Andre Silva punished them with a simple finish.
For the first, Real Madrid lost the ball in their own half and the break from Pablo Machin's side was quick. Navas picked the ball up and his low cross was tucked home by Silva to send the stadium into raptures.
Four minutes later the noise levels doubled. It came through Navas again, as he picked up the ball following a Real corner and ran almost the length of the pitch.
His shot was saved by Courtois but the rebound fell to Silva again and he made no mistake. 2-0 to Sevilla to add to the long list of LaLiga surprises this evening.
