Man Utd have put in an offer to sign the midfielder Donny van de Beek from Ajax. This could then make a move to Real Madrid difficult, the Dutch paper 'De Telegraaf' published this Sunday.
Real and the footballer reached an agreement last season, according to the paper, but the supposed transfer of 50 million euros will only be done when La Liga resumes and Real Madrid received the TV money.
However, Manchester United "are trying to get Van de Beek from right under Real Madrid's nose," the Dutch paper reported.
The good relationship between United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and Ajax's director general Edwin van der Sar, who was United's keeper for six seasons, has helped.
In Amsterdam, they would be happy if United put down the money before Real Madrid since it would give them more options in the summer transfer market to look for a replacement.
Van de Beek, whose Ajax contract runs until 2022, admitted Real Madrid's interest a year ago, but things fell through at the last minute.
