Sergio Ramos loses cool with team-mate before being sent off

The Spanish defender's La Liga campaign got off to a chaotic start as he was sent off in his side's opening game against Deportivo La Coruna.

Tensions began after Madrid's opponents refused to put the ball out of play when Dani Carvajal went down injured.

Ramos later revealed that both sides had previously agreed to kick the ball into touch if such a situation arose, but this didn't seem to be the case.

Already irritated, Ramos saw the opportunity to get some payback as he was in possession of the ball when Deportivo winger Zakaria Bakkali was brought down.

Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane urged Ramos to kick the ball out of play, but Ramos continued to play, picking out Luka Modric with a cross-field pass.

However, Modric was not on the same wavelength and prompted to play the ball into touch so Bakkali could receive treatment, much to the anger of his team-mate.

Ramos, who had made a run into the box expecting a cross and is not exactly known for his cool temperament, marched over to his team-mate demanding that he should have played on.

The Croatian midfielder looked baffled as Deportivo players heard what Ramos was saying and decided to take issue with the bad sportsmanship on the Spaniard's part.

Ramos was quickly surrounded by Deportivo players which warranted an unsurprising reaction, with the Spaniard pushing Fabian Schar away by the face, before squaring up to another player.

As the scenes died down, Ramos was awarded a yellow card by referee Jose Luis Gonzalez Gonzalez, who hoped that would be the end of the matter.

Unsurprisingly, it wasn't. Ramos' anger had carried on bubbling over and during the final stages of the match, the Madrid man jumped into an aerial challenge, leading with his elbow. 

Ramos was immediately shown a second yellow and sent for his marching orders, whilst his side ended the game with a 3-0 victory.

The defender has now been sent off an astonishing 23 times for Madrid, 18 of which have come in La Liga, a joint record he shares with ex-Sevilla defender Pablo Alfaro and former Real Zaragoza man Xavi Aguado.

However, it might not be long before he has the record all to himself.
