England have not hosted the World Cup since they won it in 1966, and failed in their attempt to host it in 2018 as they lost out ot Russia during the bidding process back in 2010.
After the 2026 edition of the biggest tournament in football was awarded to the North American nations of USA, Mexico and Canada, in June, the English FA were believed to be laying the ground work for a bid for the tournament that will follow in 2030.
Now, a spokesperson for Scottish football's governing body has confirmed that a jointly hosted tournament could be a real possibility, saying the SFA is "always open-minded to the prospect of hosting major tournaments".
"We have a fantastic track record of hosting big games in this country.
"Our focus is currently on hosting Uefa Euro 2020, with four games being played here at Hampden Park, and we are working towards that."
The bid will face competition, however, as Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay announced that they may bid collectively for the tournament, while Morocco could launch a joint effort with Tunisia and Algeria.
