It wasn't journalists who wheedled this headline out of Saúl Ñiguez. Instead, it was a group of children at an event held by the Ñiguez Sport Academy that asked the midfielder, who couldn't attend the session due to his club commitments, about his future during an Instagram Live video.
"Will you stay at Atleti?", the Spanish international was asked. "Of course I'm staying", he replied. Atlético tied Saúl down in 2017 with a contract that means he will stay with the club until June 2026.
Furthermore, his release clause sits at a whopping 150 million euros, meaning any departure seems unlikely for a player that is so key to Diego Simeone's style of play at La Liga's second placed side.
The Elche-born player's performances for Simeone's team had sparked interest from both Manchester City and Manchester United, who seemed to take a step back from negotiations following his contract renewal two years ago.
