Underwater pictures have been released of the plane that was carrying newly-signed Cardiff striker Emiliano Sala from Nantes to his new club. The images reveal that the plane had shattered into three pieces after plummeting downwards at a rate of around 90mph.
The wings snapped off, the engine thrown out and the tail vanished - all suggesting that the pilot made a string of basic errors before taking off for the flight that ended in a fatal crash. David Ibbotson also didn't have the licence to take paid passengers on the plane as he did not carry commercial flight status.
He was also not permitted to fly in bad weather but took the plane into a winter storn which could have frozen some instruments on board, potentially altering Ibbotson's altitude reading.
The AAID has revealed that it needs to carry out further investigations into the cause of the crash but what they do know is that the plane did not stay on the straight course from France and Wales. It began to meander and lose altitude while the pilot suddenly tried to pull up before fatally nose-diving into the sea.
