Manchester City made six changes going into this game, as they recover a lot of players from inury, Aguero and Gabriel Jesus started up front together, whilst captain David Silva returned from injury. It was also Danny Drinkwater's debut night for Aston Villa, as he has just signed for them, but it will be a debut he'll want to forget.
Throughout the first 15 minutes of the game it was clear that Manchester City were dominating and Aston Villa didn't really have a chance to get into the game, especially not after the deadlock was broken in the 17th minute...
And it was Mahrez who got the scoring underway, as he ran into a space and made a run down the wing with the ball, Danny Drinkwater seemed helpless and just let Mahrez run straight past him and into the box, where he just calmly and sublimely slotted the ball in at the near post to give Man City the lead. The goal was definitely coming, but it came out of nowhere and stunned Villa.
No less than six minutes later, City showed their quality with their second strike at goal. Poor defending saw Mahrez get a second goal as he just whizzed past the defenders and slammed the ball into the back of the net. This really showed how dangerous Mahrez can be and just how in control City were.
Man City started to show off, as they got their third goal in the 28th minute, completely running all over Aston Villa.
De Bruyne, who was absolutely crucial in the game, passed the ball to Sergio Aguero, who made a wonderfull strike from outside the box and of course, he did not miss, as his powerful strike rocked the back of the net and left a helpless Villa wounded.
Aston Villa tried to get back into the game and had a few moments of good pressing high up the pitch, but they really could not finish it off and it showed just how poor they were.
Just before the half time whistle, Gabriel Jesus made it four. A quality pass from Kevin De Bruyne saw the ball curl into the box from the right hand side and it was an assured finish from Jesus, who made no mistake in putting it in the back of the net.
The second half came and started off pretty much the same as the first half, with relegation-battling Villa tortured and outclassed on all levels.
Goal number 5 came in the 56th minute as Manchester City ripped through Villa. David Silva fed the ball through to Sergio Aguero in the box, who then beat the defenders and simply slotted the ball into the bottom right corner, with stunning link up play leading up to that goal! Soul destroying for Villa. This also meant Aguero broke a record as he is now the Premier League's all time oversees top goalscorer!
This was a game just full of goals and oozing Man City talent, and Aguero broke another record with his 12th hat trick in the Premier League! This pretty much summed up Villa's afternoon as a ruthless city struck again. Sergio Aguero beat the Villa defenders, as Courtney Hause was the one who gave the ball away to him in the first place and Aguero slammed the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box. What a strike, what a finish and what a result for City! He is now on 249 goals for them.
A consolation goal came for a damaged Villa, through a penalty, as Trezeguet went down in the box after a challenge on Otamendi. El Ghazi stepped up and slammed it hard into the back of the net. However, it will only be a slight comfort for the home sound.
Full time saw Aston Villa torn apart by a merciless Man City. City did not let up and absolutely shocked Villa and their fans. Aston Villa lacked momentum and could not get into the game and they paid for it. A record breaking night for Sergio Aguero as well, as he goes away with the matchball in what is sure to be a memorable game for him. Aston Villa now even further in danger of getting relegated at the end of the season.
