Rugani sentenced to 6 months in prison for drunken driving

The footballer Daniele Rugani, former Juventus defender and current Ajax player, has been sentenced Thursday by a court in Turin (north) to 6 months in prison for driving under the influence of alcohol, in addition to the withdrawal of his driving license.

The court has also decided to confiscate the player's vehicle, the Maserati with which he had an accident, and to impose a fine of 2,000 euros, according to local media.

The events occurred on July 21st, 2023, when Rugani, who at the time was still playing for Juventus, was driving the vehicle on the streets of Turin and had a minor accident without consequences.

When the police arrived at the scene, the defender was subjected to a breathalyzer test, which revealed that he was three times the maximum permitted blood alcohol limit. In the first test, the player gave a value of 1.56 and 1.54 in the second.

Before the trial, the examining magistrate offered the footballer to pay a fine of €5,000, which would have allowed him to avoid trial and erase the episode from his criminal record within two years.

However, Rugani refused to pay and opted to perform community service, but also failed to submit the application for this within the deadline.
