Rooney has been nothing short of sensational since he opted to move stateside in the summer, scoring 12 goals and recording 6 assists in 19 games to help DC United to an unlikely finish in the play-offs.
However it has been revealed that the Liverpudlian is only the ninth highest earner within the MLS; Rooney earns a base salary of £2.1 million, and with surprisingly few financial bonuses, the total figure comes out as £2.15 million.
This sum is in pale comparison to lead earner Sebastian Giovinco of Toronto FC. The Italian forward has a base salary of £4.3 million, and with many added bonus clauses, the total sum amounts to £5.5 million, over double that of Rooney.
It may also come as a shock that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is also way down the list, after the Swede moved to the MLS last summer, with his total wage figure amounting to £1.16 million.
Toronto seem to be one of the sides that are more than willing to pay their best players handsomely, with Micheal Bradley second on the list, and Jozy Altidore in seventh place.
Household names such as Bastian Schweinsteiger, David Villa and Giovanni dos Santos all earn highly lucrative deals given their global personal followings.
However, Rooney will not be too preoccupied over his earnings, after having played for Manchester United for 13 years, earning multiple mega-money deals, and also earning a final Premier League level wage packet at boyhood club Everton, before moving to the United States this summer.
