West Bromwich Albion did not take advantage of the promotion play-offs and will play in the Championship again next season. A clause in Salomon Rondon's loan deal said that his buyout clause would go down to 20 million if WBA did not achieve promotion and this will now kick in.
Rafa Benitez, as part of his negotiations over renewing at the English side, has Rondon's signing as his priority. The Venezuelan striker has played 33 games this season and scored seven goals as well as one assists for Newcastle.
Rondon was key in comfortably keeping Rafa Benitez's men in the Premier League this season. They finished in 13th with 45 points. The forward was close to not going out on loan to Newcastle because of West Brom's refusal, but Benitez finally got hold of his services. Now he wants to buy him.
