Time doesn't stand still, not even for Cristiano Ronaldo and despite always looking after himself extremely well throughout his career, he is conscious of the fact that from this season, he needs to reduce his workload, something that he has never had to do since arriving in Madrid. Ronaldo has always wanted to play in every single game, but as of this year, it will be different.
"We need to be intelligent, this is a marathon, not a sprint. You need to use your head and we have to accept the reality. I'm 31 years old and it's not easy to say, because I feel good, but recovery after matches isn't exactly the same, it's a bit slower," he said in an interview with 'France Football'.
"With age, all human beings lose things, but gain others. I'm always looking for ways to be in good shape and you can see this in my game. I'm not just thinking about this season, but for future seasons also. I have to think about game management, trying not to play every game," he continued.
Despite realising that it now takes longer for him to recover, Ronaldo is in no doubt that he continue at the top for many years to come.
He added: "Why can't I play at the top level until I am 40? It's an idea to consider. I am ready and things change. It's not a problem".
