Andy Robertson has revealed that he nearly joined Stoke City in the summer of 2017, when it was clear that he was destined to move up to the Premier League from then relegated Hull City.
The left back had enjoyed a stellar individual campaign, but could not prevent the 'Tigers' from returning to the second tier of English Football at the end of the campaign.
Currently on international duty with Scotland, who he is now captain of, Robertson has admitted that his career could have followed a rather different trajectory, had he not chosen to move to Anfield nearly two years ago.
Speaking to YouTube channel 'OpenGoal', Robertson has admitted the sensational claims that he had in depth discussion with then Stoke City boss Mark Hughes about moving to be a back up choice for Dutchman Erik Pieters.
Robertson told the YouTube channel: "'Stoke were quite interested in me. Mark Hughes had liked me and I think there was a wee bit of chat with them. So I was thinking they were a really good option; I think they finished top 10 that season and I was trying to get my head on a move to Stoke."
He continued: "I was thinking they were really keen, and at that point under Mark Hughes they were playing good football. They had Erik Pieters; I wasn't sure if I was going in as back-up to him as he was flying that season."
Of Course, an £8 million switch to Liverpool that summer proved to be the correct decision, as in just one year under Jurgen Klopp, Robertson had become a first team certainty.
In fact, in just under a year, Robertson went from Premier League relegation, to lining up against Cristiano Ronaldo in a Champions League final; albeit tainted slightly by Liverpool's loss to Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, Stoke City were relegated from the Top Flight the very same season, after a 10 year stay at the elite level of English football.
Since then, Robertson has become captain of his national side, and will be hoping to run current champions Manchester City close for the Premier League crown at the end of the current campaign.
