In an interview with 'Het Nieuwsblad', the Belgium manager, Roberto Martinez, has revealed that Lukaku and Hazard will not take part in the next international friendlies this March. Belgium are due to face Ireland and Burkina Faso.
"No, I won't make any exception. I wouldn't want to. We have the idea of only calling up players who have up to 50 international caps", explained Martinez.
This situation could be well received by the players and their respective clubs. However, a certainty in Lukaka and Hazard's case is that they are going through a bad patch individually. Most notably, the Real Madrid player.
Playing for Belgium would be a positive experience and a chance for game time. Both players have seriously lacked this in recent times. In fact, Hazard has not played a minute of Real's last four matches.
"Of course not playing in matches is worrying because it's new for Hazard and he's never been in a situation like this. It could be difficult for him", said Martinez recently.
Now, Hazard is suffering from an ankle issue and this could mean he misses out on the next 'El Clasico' against Barcelona on Sunday (21:00 CET). He is in a sticky situation that it seems he is struggling to get out of.
