With feelings running high and even a farewell letter, Robben has said goodbye to Bayern Munich at the age of 35 to begin the home stretch of his sporting career.
The Dutchman left Real Madrid ten years ago, a team in which he played a leading role until the arrival of galácticos such as Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo...
"I felt very comfortable in Madrid and I had good performances. The politics of the club changed and I no longer had opportunities so I had to decide if it made sense to stay.
"It felt good when a big club like Bayern tries so hard to bring me in. Florentino had returned as president and had brought Kaká, Benzema, Xabi Alonso, Cristiano... The club had spent a lot of money and told me that I also had to win. It was a shame for me," he explained.
Robben confessed to thinking about leaving Bayern because he couldn't believe what was happening: "Being booed in my own stadium was a big shock. I thought it was better to go somewhere else.
When questioned about what he leaves behind in Munich, Robben referred to almost his entire life: "Two of my children were born here. This is something very special. The people, the city and the whole environment have affected us a lot. Football is still fun for me and if I go to another club everything has to be right."
