Barcelona and Real Madrid will fight for the La Liga title if play resumes. Real lost top spot just before the break and must start afresh if they want to win the league.
In recent years, the side coached by Zinedine Zidane have dropped off at the business end of the season. Whether it be because the title was already decided or because they were focussing on the Champions League, it is a fact that Madrid have dropped more points than Barca.
As 'AS' reminds us, If Real Madrid perform like they have done at the back end of the last ten seasons, they would only win the 2019-20 title with two of those ten sets of results.
Barcelona have normally peaked at the right time and nearly always keep in touch. Only the 2010-11 season and the 2015-16 one would see RM win La Liga. In 2015-16, RM won the treble (La Liga, Champions League and Copa del Rey).
'AS' also analysed Atletico Madrid's seasons. They are currently outside the Champions League places. Only results from the 2009-10 season, when they got just 13 points from their last 11 matches, would see them miss out on the CL again this time.
There are 33 points up for grabs and a titanic battle not only for La Liga, but also for Europe. Sevilla, Real Sociedad, Getafe and Atletico are behind Barca and Real Madrid. Just two points separate third and sixth.
