"It's a shame the image that's being sent into the world. There is no level playing field, the game is not played," declared the president of CONMEBOL on the River-Boca return leg.
Alejandro Domínguez assures that the match is suspended for this Sunday, but it is not a definitive suspension, but a postponement. "We'll talk to the clubs, it's just postponed," he said.
After meetings with the presidents of River and Boca, D'Onofrio and Angelici, respectively, Dominguez appeared to definitively assure that the River-Boca match would not be played on Sunday.
There is no confirmed date yet, although it is speculated that the return of the final would be played on December 8, eight days before the Club World Cup, a tournament in which there is a place for the winner of the Libertadores.
"The decision has been made. I'm going to invite the presidents to Asuncion and that's where the decision will be made as to when the final will be played between River and Boca," Dominguez said.
Boca Juniors formally requested the postponement of the final due to the lack of "equal conditions". It was a request that CONMEBOL did not initially contemplate. River simply adhered to what was officially agreed.
In the end, CONMEBOL agreed to the requests. As a reminder, the Boca Juniors bus was attacked by radicals on its way to the Estadio Monumental. In an attempt to dissolve the tumult, pepper spray entered the bus, wounding several players.
River Plate, minutes after Dominguez's announcement, pointed out in a tweet that the match was postponed.
