Messi, who is currently on international duty, gave 'Fox Sports' his team summary as Argentina gear up for the World Cup.
"Argentina are always one of the favourites because of our reputation and history, but in reality, right now, given the current circumstaces, we aren't one of the favourites," he revealed honestly.
Messi then went on to expand on his statements: "There are much better teams like Spain, Brazil, Germany, and France. I think that right now, they're above us and they're the favourites."
"We have a very good group of players, but there's nothing that makes us strong as a team. We didn't have time to strengthen our spirit or team play," he continued.
"There's still time to develop our team mentality and do the work that the manager is asking of us to perfection," the Argentina star added.
Messi then took a moment to look back on his devastating loss in the final to Germany in 2014: "I wasn't involved much in that game. I think about how I shot, my ball control, how badly I took the ball down. I should have controlled it with my groin, like I did the other day against Chelsea."
